Those with anxiety may be more predisposed to the impact of trauma, while those with trauma history may experience cycles of anxiety related to those events.

When I treat someone with anxiety, I’m continuing to look at their symptoms through a trauma-informed lens, knowing that until very recently, PTSD was categorized as an anxiety disorder.

What is anxiety?

Common Symptoms of anxiety:

  • “Persistent, excessive fear or worry in situations that are not threatening.”

  • Headaches, fatigue, and insomnia

  • Feelings of apprehension or dread

  • Feeling tense or jumpy

  • Restlessness or irritability

  • Anticipating the worst and being watchful for signs of danger

  • Pounding or racing heart and shortness of breath

  • Sweating, tremors, and twitches

Trauma and Anxiety Treatment

EMDR and CBT Treatment for anxiety disorders.

I use CBT and EMDR modalities to address anxiety disorders. I also provide clients with psychoeducation about the biological sources and influences which lead to anxiety. This can be a powerful tool in helping you gain insight into how your nervous system operates – leading to better management and relief over time. By learning effective strategies to identify triggers and address symptoms with real-life skills, you can continue to enjoy your life to the fullest extent by doing all of those activities that bring meaning or joy, without anxiety weighing you down.
